Fuel making photocell

I was thinking if it would be possible to use a chemical reaction that uses sun energy in a photocell to create a form of biofuel or make pure hydrogen to be used by fuel cells to run cars or create electricity on a long term basis. This would replace the current direct sunlight to electricity scheme that is used in current photocells and would be a more long lasting solution.
